Waiting on Wednesday! #1

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights an upcoming release that I am eagerly awaiting. This weeks book is The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. It's the second book in The Heroes of Olympus Series.

In The Lost Hero, three demigods named Jason, Piper, and Leo made their first visit to Camp Half-Blood, where they inherited a quest:

Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.

Who are the other four mentioned in the prophesy? The answer may lie in another camp miles away, where a new camper has shown up and appears to be the son of Neptune, god of the sea. . . .

I know there isn't really much to go off of....like barely anything. But I think getting closer to the release date (Oct. 4) there will be more. It's really cool because the cover was just released on May 26th! I'm a huge fan of the Percy Jackson series as well as the Heroes of Olympus so I will definitely get this!

Eighteen years ago, a rogue Army doctor secretly experimented with a chromosomal drug on unknowing pregnant women. When he was killed not long after the children were born, any knowledge and evidence seemed to die with him - except for the living, breathing, human products of his work.

Almost two decades later, the newly self-proclaimed "open-book" military unearths the truth about the experiment, bringing Clio Kaid and the other affected teens to a state-of-the-art, isolated campus where they soon discover that C9x did indeed alter their chromosomes, its mutations presenting as super-human abilities. The military kids, who come from across the nation and all walks of life, come into their own as lighter-than-air 'athletes'; 'indies' as solid as stone walls; teens who can make themselves invisible and others who can blind with their brilliance.

While exploring her own special ability, forging new friendships and embarking on first love, Clio also stumbles onto information indicating that the military may not have been entirely forthcoming with them and that all may not be as it seems...
I was contacted by the author to review but the review is all my own opinion.
Where do I start with Solid? The plot of this book is fresh and new, it's definitely not something I've ever read before! Ms.Workinger has an amazing writing style, as well as interesting characters which made in my opinion the story come to life. The story follows Clio your average teen as she comes to grips with the harsh reality of this rouge experiment.
I really really liked Clio! I loved her friendship with the main characters: Bliss, Garrett, Miranda and Jack.....oh how I loved the romance between Clio and Jack! I seriously can't wait to see their romance blossom. The story had one real climatic point where the "bad guy" was revealed and to be honest I kinda figured who this "bad guy" was, but was still shocked at some of the side details. Yep thanks to my crime show addiction I figured it out! But I really didn't mind that one climatic point, because I could really focus on the story and the development of characters instead of trying to keep up with every event.

The book in all was a 5 out of 5 stars! I loved everything about it! I seriously can't wait for the release of Settling which is set to be released July 4th of this year! Solid is the first in Ms.Workinger's s Solid series! Here is the book cover of Settling:

Happy Reading!

Review: Across the Universe

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Published:Razor Bill
Released:January 11,2011
Pages:398(Hardcover)
Overall Rating: 4 out 5 stars

From goodreads-

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

Before Across the Universe was even released I think the whole book community was buzzing about it. From then on I knew I had to get it! And there starts my journey.....

The plot itself was nothing like I had ever read before because this was my first sci-fi YA novel! I love how Ms.Revis incorporated a love story while still making it not all about a love story. Getting closer to the end she definitely had me on my toes because of the "mystery."

Amy was absolutely an enjoyable character. It was interesting to see her reactions when she was put into certain situations. Elder...Elder.... I feel so sorry for you. Your always trying to do your best but everything you do never seems right! Eldest just bugged me throughout the whole book I found myself getting outraged as well and also a little scared at times.

I will definitely check out the second book, A Million Suns. How exciting! I think that's it. If you have not checekd Across the Universe out you surely should! Thanks for reading

 Happy Reading,
~Ash!<3:)~

P.S. Expect more posts since I am on summer break! As well as more reviews.........

Review:Marked

Marked by P.C. and Kristin Cast

Published by:St. Martin's Press
Released:May 1,2007
Pages:306
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

From goodreads:

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed.  In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change.  Not all of those who are chosen do.  It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling.  She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx.  But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.  When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

This was my first time ever reading one of The House of Night let alone P.C. and Kristin Cast writings. I enjoyed this book a lot and it was a different change from the Vampire (Or Vampyre in this case)books I'm use to reading. Now I don't particularly agree with the main characters view on her morals but I loved how witty and smart Zoey was. The story itself was awesome! I really liked her roommate and all of the rest of them. I think that's what made me like this book a lot more....and last I really really liked Erik.Ohhh he sounded so sweet and charming and don't forget dashing!! Well I hope that this book series will keep impressing me and I hope to get Betrayed soon.

Review: The Water Wars

The Water Wars by Cameron Stracher

Published by: Sourcebooks Fire
Released: January 1, 2011
Pages: 256 pgs.
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

From Goodreads:
Vera and her brother, Will, live in the shadow of the Great Panic, in a country that has collapsed from environmental catastrophe. Water is hoarded by governments, rivers are dammed, and clouds are sucked from the sky. But then Vera befriends Kai, who seems to have limitless access to fresh water. When Kai suddenly disappears, Vera and Will set off on a dangerous journey in search of him-pursued by pirates, a paramilitary group, and greedy corporations. Timely and eerily familiar, acclaimed author Cameron Stracher makes a stunning YA debut that's impossible to forget.

My Review-

Where to start with this book? I was very skeptical to read this because of all the negative reviews but also I just really wanted to give it a try. I realized that because I'm at a young age compared to some people who read ya books that the way we look at things are well different. Enough of the jabber onto the review:

Characters are always a big part in a book and for me I can usually find depth in characters pretty easily. My two favorite were Vera and Ulysses. Vera doesn't seem very feisty and stubborn at the beginning of the book but she eventually is. I really admired that she stood up for herself and kind of had an edge to it. From the first two or three sentences that Ulysses spoke I knew he was going to be a very nice pirate. I love the fatherly figure he has and how Vera can trust him.

The plot was interesting but the first three chapters Vera kept talking about water this water that and it soon got me very very thirsty :) lol. Did this happen to anyone else? The next thing that bugged me was the ending!!Uhhhh it was a really nice ending until the last two sentences uhhhh! I felt like Mr. Strahcer really rushed it because I wouldn't have minded reading 3-5 more pages. Anyways I give this book 4 out of 5 because it was really good and I hope he makes a series out of it. It has not been confirmed so don't quote me on that but I hope he does because there is some unfinished business.

P.s. I am currently reading Marked(1st book in House of Night)so we will see how that goes!

Review: ttyl

ttyl by Lauren Myracle

Published by: Amulet Books/ New York
Released: April 1, 2005
Pages:234 pgs.
Overall Rating:4 out of 5 stars

  From back of book:
On the first day of tenth  grade, best friends Maddie (mad maddie), Angela (SnowAngel, and Zoe (zoegirl) vow not to let school stupidness get them down...or split them apart. But as the weeks pass and the instant messages accumulate, it's clear that tenth grade will be a roller coaster ride of boy temptation, math torture, donut emergencies, and Queen Bee encounters. Then a jerky boy sends peppy Angela into the dumps, tough Maddie makes a mistake that has the whole school talking, and good girl Zoe gets in over her head with a flirty teacher. Will the winsome threesome make it through the year?

My Review-
Well first off what I think mainly drew me to this book was the cover and name. As you know I am 13 years old and I use this kind of "language" as adults call it and I thought it was such a cute idea to write the book in text message terms. Now on to the charecters:

The most relatable character to me was Zoe because I'm kind of that good girl too but I'm not always like that you know. Angela was also a relatable character she was very funny and the crazy one of the group which some of my friends are :) love you guys! Now Maddie, she was my least favorite character she was just quite annoying at times and at others she was really sweet. Overall the charecters were awesome! The plot was interesting too but I can't give much details without giving the book away. Overall this book is a 4 out of 5 stars!
